The Fighting Cocks PH
If you would like to break up your Sunday by meeting new like-minded single people and having a great afternoon out, then join us for a picturesque circular riverside walk along one of the most picturesque stretches of the River Darent. Horton Kirby prospered as a village in the 18th century when coaches stopped overnight on the way from London to the coast. The White House in the village is believed to have been the centre of a profitable smuggling business of spirits and silks in the 19th century. We walk alongside the river which swirls over some weirs. During the walk we can see one of the finest mills in the Darenth valley. A past resident there was the infamous Captain Bligh, who was the commander of the HMS Bounty during the mutiny in 1789. The walk also takes in the pretty picturesque village of Farningham passing the site of a former castle and medieval bridge. There is plenty of interesting Georgian architecture to look at in the village. We stop off at a pub halfway round for some optional refreshments. Our walks are a great way to make new friends and meet new people in a relaxed and friendly environment. Do not worry if you are coming alone as you will made to feel welcome and have a great time. If there is anyone you would like to meet again after the walk, then let us know and we will do the work for you, it is a simple as that!
